Invis Potion

A sparkly, fizzy party drink that feels like a magic trick, with an optional color-change moment if you add the “spell” ingredient.

Some recipes are about feeding people. This one is about delighting them. Think: a glass that looks totally normal, then you stir and suddenly it is swirling with shimmer like a tiny galaxy decided to move in.

This Invis Potion is my go-to for kids’ parties, spooky movie nights, or any time you want a little drama without doing the most. It is basically a fizzy citrus “potion” with edible luster dust. No complicated steps, no hard-to-find ingredients, and yes, tasting as you go is encouraged.

Why It Works

  • Swirl factor: edible luster dust (or cocktail shimmer) makes that magical, moving sparkle that looks like a trick.
  • Bright flavor: lemon and a little sweetness keep it fresh, not syrupy.
  • Party-proof: you can batch the base ahead, then top with bubbles right before serving so it stays fizzy.
  • Customizable: keep it “invisible,” add a juice gradient, or do a color-change moment with butterfly pea tea that turns purple or pink in the lemony potion.

Storage Tips

Best rule: store the non-carbonated base, not the finished fizzy drink.

  • Base (lemon juice + simple syrup + optional grape juice): refrigerate in a sealed jar up to 3 days. Stir or shake before using.
  • Finished potion (already carbonated): it will go flat fast. If you must save it, cover and refrigerate up to 24 hours, then revive with fresh sparkling water.
  • Shimmer note: shimmer settles. That is normal. Stir right before pouring to wake up the magic again.

Common Questions

Is luster dust safe to drink?

Use edible luster dust or drink shimmer only. The label should say “edible” and list ingredients. If it says “non-toxic” but not edible, skip it for drinks. Also, follow your brand’s guidance. Some cocktail shimmer products are mica-based and labeled edible, while craft dust is not.

What if I cannot find luster dust?

You can still make an Invis Potion that feels special. Try chilled sparkling water + lemon + a clear cup + fun garnish (lemon twist, mint, or a skewer of grapes). It will not shimmer, but it still feels like a “potion.”

How do I make it change color?

Easy options: add a small splash of blue sports drink for a pale tint, or float a little 100% pomegranate or cranberry juice on top for a dramatic gradient. Stir to “activate.”

If you want a true wow moment, use butterfly pea tea concentrate. It starts blue, but the lemon in this recipe is acidic, so it will turn purple to pink when it hits the potion. Add it right before serving for the biggest color change.

Can adults drink this too?

Absolutely. For an adult version, add 1 to 1 1/2 ounces vodka or gin per serving, or swap in prosecco instead of sparkling water.

Why did my drink look clumpy or dusty?

Shimmer needs a quick dissolve. Mix it with a teaspoon of prepared simple syrup (or lemon juice) first, then add bubbles. Also, use cold ingredients so everything stays crisp and clean-tasting.

The first time I made an “invis potion,” I was trying to keep a kitchen full of kids busy while dinner did its thing. I handed them clear cups and told them it was invisible until you activated it. One stir later, the shimmer hit, and I got that perfect second of silence where everyone just stared like I had actual wizard credentials. That is my favorite kind of cooking: low effort, high joy, and a little chaos you can control.
