A cozy, classic fruitcake made with dried fruit, citrus, warm spices, and toasted nuts. Simple method, great for gifting, and better after a few days.
Fruitcake has a reputation. Some of it is earned. A lot of it is just… historical trauma from dry slices that tasted like a candle aisle. This is not that fruitcake.
This version is moist, warmly spiced, and packed with fruit and toasted nuts, with a bright hit of citrus so it tastes like dessert and not like punishment. It is also a make-ahead champ, which means you can bake it now, forget about it for a bit, and then casually act like you are the most organized person in the room later.
Bonus: you get to brush it with rum or brandy if you want. It is optional, but it does feel like putting a tiny velvet robe on your fruitcake. Very classy. Very cozy.
