Two fluffy vanilla sponge layers filled with strawberry jam and whipped cream, finished with a snowfall of powdered sugar. A timeless, tea-ready cake you can...
Swiss roll is one of those desserts that looks like you spent all day being extremely talented, when really it is a quick sponge cake, a confident roll, and a filling you can make in five minutes. I love this version because it is light and springy, the swirl is clean, and the flavor is classic: vanilla cake, softly sweet cream, and a bright hit of jam.
The only “serious” part is the roll, and even that is very forgiving if you follow two rules: roll it while it is warm, and let it cool in that rolled shape. After that, you unroll, fill, reroll, and suddenly you are the person bringing the pretty dessert.
